In the room
The room
Suthep is west of the walled city towards the old airport road, about three kilometres from Deaf Shop, and Soi 4 off that road is where Khun Munee opened the shop in early 2023. The front is a record store: Thai and Western artists on vinyl and cassette, cheap crates full of Japanese finds, and starter boxes of three LPs for 100 baht to get a new collector going, which is one of the better ideas on these pages.
The back of the shop is the point. A high-end hi-fi runs the width of the wall, with sofas to lean back on. The owner-verified listing on ListenBars gives the speakers as Pioneer CS-77A and Diatone DS-36BR, two Japanese pairs from the era the records come from, and the programme as post-1950s jazz, fusion, Japanese jazz and 1980s Japanese pop. University students come, Time Out says, to learn what analogue sounds like. It is not a bar, and it closes at six. It is the afternoon before the night.
Who made it
The people
Khun Munee, who opened it in early 2023 and hosts listening sessions. Thirty Records is a partner of Poy Festival, the December vinyl fair whose co-founder, Simona Meesaiyati, wants Chiang Mai to be a music city. The city has about ten record stores and two music universities to draw on.
Which night
The night
There is none; this is a daytime room. A weekday afternoon, when the owner has time to talk. Buy a starter box for 100 baht if you sit for a side, because it is a shop. The hours, 11:00 to 18:00 with Wednesday closed, are from August 2025, and the only 2026 confirmation is the owner's own ListenBars entry. Phone first.
