Yayyyyy Record Bar

One shophouse wide in a 77-year-old building on the edge of Nang Loeng, named after the grandmother's grocery it replaced, where the DJs bring their own crates and might put your record on.

In the room

The room

Nang Loeng is old Bangkok, with no station within an easy walk, and Chakkraphatdi Phong Road is its edge. Number 146 is a single shophouse unit in a building Time Out gives as 77 years old. The name is the first fact worth having. The neighbourhood called the grocer's that used to be here ran yai, Grandma's shop, and when it closed the founders kept the nickname and added the extra letters. Regulars still call it Yai's Bar.

More than 1,500 records sit on the shelves. Resident DJs bring their own collections; visiting selectors and collectors turn up with their latest finds, and the counter is where the conversation about them happens. The drinks follow the Japanese kissaten: highballs, and a house gin that changes with the season. The Standard, writing about two months after the opening in 2024, described the owners as all DJs from the vinyl community, which is why the invitation below exists.

Who made it

The people

A team of DJs from Bangkok's record community, unnamed in print, who opened here around June 2024 and went on to open OBi Record Bar in Silom in 2026 after nearly a year looking for a second site. This is the first room.

Which night

The night

Bring a record. The staff and DJs enjoy sharing music with the room, Time Out says, and may put your choice on the turntable, which is the only such invitation on these pages. Then any night it is open: Tuesday to Sunday, 18:00 to midnight. Time Out's details box says daily and its text says Tuesday to Sunday, so treat Monday as doubtful. Order a kissaten-style highball or the seasonal gin, and take a Grab home, because the MRT is twenty-five minutes away on foot.
