In the room

The room

Central: The Original Store is Central Group's heritage building on Charoen Krung near Soi 36 and 38, by the river, and the Sound Club takes two floors of it with an interior by Kunichi Nomura's Tripster. Downstairs is the live room: six OJAS twelve-inch coaxial speakers around a grand piano under a high glass ceiling. Upstairs is the Audiophile Bar, and the Audiophile Bar is why the room is in the atlas.

The list, as Mixmag Asia published it at the opening in October 2020: a pair of OJAS 816 speakers designed for the room by Devon Turnbull, an original Urei 1620 mixer, Technics 1210s with Goldring E3 cartridges, a 2007 McIntosh MC252 amplifier, and more than a thousand albums played free-form to the mood of the room. Mixmag pitched it somewhere between a New York jazz club and a Tokyo listening bar. There is no published silence rule. The system does the asking.

Who made it

The people

Siwilai is a Central Group brand, and Turnbull, whose OJAS horns are also in Public Records in Brooklyn, built the speakers for this room rather than shipping a pair. That is the detail that matters: Bangkok did not get the listening bar second-hand. The group marked ten years in the city with Siwilai Parade in July 2024, which included a Turnbull speaker-building workshop and listening session in this room on 13 and 14 July.

Which night

The night

An event night upstairs, because the room was built for a selector. Resident Advisor listed a Vinyl and Wine night in the Audiophile Bar in June 2026, which is the proof the room is still working. Each floor has its own cocktail list; Tatler Thailand says the upstairs one is themed on jazz singers. Hours are the weak spot. No 2026 source publishes them; the 2021 and 2023 listings both say Wednesday to Sunday, 18:00 to 01:00. Check Instagram or Resident Advisor before you cross town.

Insider tip

Walk in knowing

Go up, not down. The Audiophile Bar is the room with the OJAS 816s and the Urei. Check Resident Advisor for a selector night and the hours before you set off.

Why it fits

Why it is in the atlas

The atlas's test for a listening bar is whether the system was built for the room. Here the builder was Devon Turnbull, whose horns are also in Public Records in Brooklyn, and the room is a heritage building by the river.
