Music and concert venues in the United Kingdom

From a Cornish cliff to a Victorian chapel, the United Kingdom's six rooms cover a lot of ground. Minack Theatre at Porthcurno is open to the sea air, Snape Maltings in Suffolk is a converted malthouse concert hall, and The Glasshouse in Gateshead looks over the Tyne. London adds three very different spaces: KOKO in Camden, Union Chapel in Islington and Studio 338 in Greenwich.

Hearing music in the United Kingdom

Choose by taste. Snape Maltings and The Glasshouse are for classical, orchestral and chamber listeners, and the Gateshead hall was modelled on Vienna's Musikverein. Union Chapel suits quiet acoustic and folk sets on wooden pews, with around 250 events a year. Minack is for songs against open sea air. KOKO is a restored theatre for indie and electronic gigs, and Studio 338 is a glass-roofed terrace for house and techno.

For timing, Minack's season runs from Easter to the end of October, and shows can sell out. The Aldeburgh Festival at Snape ran from 12 to 28 June 2026, with Summer at Snape from 1 to 29 August 2026, and 2027 dates were unconfirmed. The Glasshouse's hours change daily with the programme and are published week by week on its Your Visit page, with the box office open from 12pm on open days. KOKO is best mid-week, and Studio 338 opens Friday and Saturday nights.

Getting there varies. Gateshead is about 30 minutes by Metro from Newcastle International, with the Metro station a ten-minute walk from the venue. Snape has no station at the door: the nearest is Saxmundham, four miles away, so book a taxi or the Katch taxi-bus. For Minack, take the train to Penzance, then buses 1/1A or 1B towards Land's End via Porthcurno, and book taxis in advance. In London, KOKO is by Mornington Crescent on the Northern Line and Union Chapel is by Highbury & Islington.
