Planning a trip
Hearing music in Spain
Pick by mood. The Palau in Barcelona is for classical, jazz and world music beneath coloured glass, with evening concerts most nights and self-guided daytime tours from 10:00 (the 11:00 slot is best for the skylight). Jameos del Agua suits travellers who want music inside a landform: classical, electronic and minimalist programmes in a lava tube. The Caves of Nerja are a cave visit first: the summer festival has not played inside the cave since 2019 and now uses an open-air auditorium in the gardens by the entrance. Cova Santa and DC-10 are for house and techno.
Seasons differ. Both Ibiza clubs are open from May to October and closed from November to April. Cova Santa is best on Saturday nights, or in June and September, and DC-10 on Mondays for the Circoloco residency, avoiding the July and August headline weekends. Jameos is open every day from 10:00 to 18:00, with Noches de Jameos (night visit, dinner and concert) on Fridays. Nerja's festival of music and dance usually runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 July to the first Sunday of August, with the 2026 edition unconfirmed; the caves open 09:15 to 16:30 most of the year, 09:15 to 17:30 in summer and holiday periods, and close on 1 January, 6 January, 15 May and 25 December.
For Ibiza, DC-10 is on bus L9 from Ibiza Town, and Cova Santa is a drive south, with no reliable bus. Jameos is on the LZ-1 in the north of Lanzarote, about 50 minutes by car or bus line 9 from Arrecife. The Nerja caves are at Maro, 58 km east of Málaga on the A-7 (about 48 minutes), or by ALSA bus to the 'Nerja (Cuevas)' stop. In Barcelona, the nearest Metro stop to the Palau is Urquinaona on L4.
