In the room

The experience

You come off a wet North Shields street to a wall of rust, teal and cream tiles with the club's name in red letters and a light box that says C.I.U. AFFILIATED, which is the first joke and also the truth. Inside, somebody ushers you upstairs. Through a swinging door you catch the members at their games on the baize, and they catch you, and nobody minds. The concert room is long and low, with a ruched pelmet over the stage and a bar at the back that pours a gin like it means it. Then the sound system comes on, or a Geordie jazz band does, and the room you thought was a joke turns out to be the best room in town. Bingo is on Friday. Respect it.

Are You Affiliated sells its tickets through Resident Advisor and shows sell out, so check RA on the day: late tickets do turn up. Downstairs belongs to the members; you are a guest, so behave like one.

It is the right music in the right room: a working men's club that never stopped being one, with a promoter from the same streets programming the room upstairs. House records and Geordie jazz land differently in a place built for turns, raffles and Saturday nights, and the North East charm of that tiled front cannot be faked.

Friday and Saturday nights, when Are You Affiliated runs gigs and club nights upstairs, plus Man Power's day parties. Coming up as of 26 October 2026: the Me Me Me Halloween Ball with DECIUS and Man Power (31 October), Bodega (20 November) and 2ManyDJs (18 December).
