Pulse

Gqom was built in Durban's townships, KwaMashu, Lamontville and Clermont, on FL Studio and shared files in the early 2010s, by DJ Lag, Distruction Boyz, Naked Boyz, Rudeboyz and Griffit Vigo. The rooms are odd: a club across three floors of the Winston Hotel in Bulwer, a skatepark bar on Hunter Street at South Beach, an arts centre on the harbour, and a rooftop in Morningside where a local musician says the gqom parties happen. The biggest crowds are outdoors, in the park beside Moses Mabhida Stadium, in the December weeks when the city fills up. Boiler Room came for the sound on 12 June 2026. Few club listings reach the internet. That is not the same as nothing happening.
