The experience

Sunwaves grew up on the sand at Mamaia, on Romania's Black Sea coast, and made its name as the home of Romanian minimal techno: Raresh, Petre Inspirescu, Rhadoo, Praslea. Sets routinely ran to 12 hours, with the sea as the back wall. That chapter is over. The 35th edition, held from 1 to 5 May 2025 at Mamaia's Sunwaves Beach, was the last in Romania. The festival now travels: the official site lists SW39, a spring edition at PR Beach in Golden Sands, Bulgaria, marking the festival's twentieth anniversary in 2027, and a Wednesday residency at Playa Soleil in Ibiza. The atlas keeps Mamaia because the room mattered. Check the official site before you plan a trip.
