In the room
The experience
Cakeshop sits in the basement of 134 Itaewon-ro, in Yongsan-gu, and has been there since 2012. Mixmag Asia calls it one of Seoul's longest-running underground clubs. In summer 2026 the club took its name on a tour of South Korea. The room is small, with a low ceiling, and it can feel cramped when it fills. Unofficial counts put the capacity at about 200, so a queue outside is normal on big nights. The programme runs from UK bass, grime and future garage to hyperpop and experimental hip hop. Other nights bring house, techno, drum and bass and disco. Hours and prices change with the event; a Saturday in August 2026 ran from 22:00 to 04:00 or later, with a 19-and-over door. Bring your passport, because Korean clubs check ID. A calmer sister space, Contra, was reported in the same building in 2017, but its current status is unconfirmed.
