In the room

The experience

Basilica Hudson sits at the south end of Hudson, two hours up the river from Penn Station and a few hundred feet from the Amtrak platform. Built in 1880 as a forge and foundry for steel railway wheels, later a glue factory until the 1980s, it was stripped to its bones: industrial windows, brick walls, terracotta ceiling tiles and an intricate steel truss. In 2010 the previous owner, Patrick Doyle, handed it to Melissa Auf der Maur and Tony Stone, and it became one of the most quietly important rooms in the eastern United States. 24-Hour Drone is the room's signature programme: a continuous wall of sustained sound from noon to noon, audiences on mats on the floor, the bass moving through your spine like geology.

Insider tip

Walk in knowing

Come by train: the venue is 400 feet from the Hudson Amtrak station, and there is no parking on the grounds except for disabled visitors. Book the train early, as Basilica warns that trains sell out and fares rise.
